Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Drone Operator to support our Solar Construction team. This role is primarily responsible for capturing, processing, and delivering aerial data to assist Project Managers with site planning, progress tracking, inspections, photographs/videos and reporting. Must have previous drone footage for references.
This is a salaried, travel-intensive position (approximately 90% travel). When not traveling, the Drone Operator is expected to report to the AMS office in White Plains, NY Monday through Friday during standard business hours and provide in-office support to project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Drone Operations & Data Collection
- Operate drones to capture high-quality aerial imagery and video of solar construction sites (daily/weekly basis)
- Conduct pre-flight planning, airspace coordination, and safety checks
- Ensure compliance with all FAA regulations and company safety standards
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades
- Provide pictures of the entire site including solar field, invertors, modules, racking etc.
Project Support/In-Office Support
- Assist Project Managers with administrative and coordination tasks
- Review and process collected data
- Support planning for upcoming site visits and drone missions
- Partner closely with Project Managers to support project execution and reporting
- Provide weekly footage and photography to Marketing to support project updates and reporting
- Provide aerial data for site surveys, construction progress tracking, and inspections
- Assist with mapping, modeling and data analysis
- Organize and maintain project files, flight logs, and documentation
Reporting & Communication
- Process and deliver drone data in a clear, timely, and usable format
- Prepare visual reports, progress updates, and presentations as needed
- Communicate effectively with internal teams regarding site conditions and findings
Travel & Field Work
- Travel extensively (up to 90%) to solar project sites around the country
- Must be okay with staying in town over the weekend for certain project locations
- Adapt to varying site conditions, weather, and project schedules
- Represent the company professionally while onsite
Qualifications
- FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (required)
- 3-4 years of drone operation experience, preferably in construction, engineering, or solar projects
- Experience with drone mapping software
- Strong understanding of aerial data collection and processing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in solar or renewable energy construction
- Knowledge of GIS or CAD software
- OSHA certification or familiarity with construction safety protocols
